Who the fuck is Andy Irving?
In 2023 the club signed 23 year old goalkeeper Andy Irving from Austria Klagenfurt and then instantly loaned him back. Irving is a bit of a nomad and the highest level he’s played at is the SPFL for Heart of Midlothian, but otherwise he’s bummed around the Scottish lower leagues and a few low level European clubs.
So why did we sign him? He’s not a player with bags of potential, he’s not someone for the future and he’s not backup, as we have Fabianski, Trott and Anang.
According to Wikipedia, nether club announced the transfer either, so we have a player on our books and likely being paid by the parent club to play in nowheresville Austrian league.
I’ve thought for a while now that some of our transfers and turnover of players isn’t kosher. I think back to Hugill, who was signed for a hefty fee only to play 20 minutes of football, before being shipped off the the north-east. Then there’s Vlasic, another we paid a ton for, only to leave again after limited opportunities to go for much less than we paid.
I’m sure it’s just the usual board ineptitude, eh? 😐

If I had a vast array of social media accounts following his every step, I could tell you. But, I’m more interested to find out if he’s associated with the Moyes’.

Quite a bit on spin on this.
He is a regular starter for Klagenfurt. They are 4th in the table and play at home to 32k.
Playing a higher standard than Trott and getting experience playing regularly unlike Anang.
Sale with loan back is common especially if the selling club wish to keep the player.
Ok not the best of leagues but 3rd GK usually is the spot for a HG player. Would not be at all surprised if we see him in the first team squad next season. Still very young for a GK.

If he's "bummed around" the lower divisions in the Scottish Leagues, and scores goals to boot, then no doubt he'll end up as the player who denies The COO that precious 6th place finish in the 98th minute of injury time, last game of the season.

If the connection is not Steidten or Austrian, and if Billy McKinley doesn’t know him, this leaves the Moyes brothers, David or Kenny, who seem to hang around together god help us.
By the way if Trott comes back, I will be amazed. He should have left the club years ago when it was obvious he wasn’t up to it.

I believe it was a way of funnelling funds to the club in exchange for some kind of intra-club agreement in a league where we might look to develop players or identify cheap potential.
Maintained as low key, simply because there wasn't much to it...just a mutually beneficial transfer of funds to serve the establishment of an agreement.

I’ve never heard of him. But I checked wiki and he’s got a few goals this season, which is quite impressive for a goalie.

Strange transfers often have an obvious explanation
The ludicrous fee for Hugill of Preston was agreed by the former Preston manager D Moyes
The ludicrous fee for the fruitcake Savio Nsereko of Brescia was agreed by our sporting director Nani whose father in law ran Brescia

Fuck me, what a dickhead post, he’s a fucking midfielder not a goalie. And I’ve just read they’re a feeder club, but not sure why that means we’d buy shit players who will never be good enough for English league football, let along the Premier League.
